Saadani Game Reserve is the only reserve in Tanzania to offer both bush and beach experiences, and the Saadani village itself is one of the oldest settlements on the Swahili Coast. Walking safaris are an extremely rewarding way of exploring this area and emerging onto a white sand beach is a surreal experience after tracking big game in the bush. Canoe safaris on the river, game drives in the park and night walks are all excellent ways to discover this area. In addition, you may spot dolphins and whales offshore and the Green Turtle Project further south has been established to protect this animal. Visits to the local villages as well as the discovery of ancient ruins behind the lodge can only add to your experience here.

Kilwa, in Southern Tanzania, is a small town with a great cultural heritage. Kilwa is perhaps most famous for the ruins on Kilwa Kisiwani, representing the most exceptional examples of early Islamic architecture in sub-Saharan Africa. Apart from discovering these ancient ruins, Kilwa is also reputed for its big game fishing – some of the finest in East Africa. Spend your days exploring the mangrove covered waterways, the ancient ruins, the pristine water and the excellent fishing in the area.
